The #1 Thing You Can Do For Your Financial Health
Budgeting, cutting expenses, trying to earn more, student loans, 401k contributions… managing your money has a lot of different pieces requiring your attention.
And at the end of the day I know you just want to feel GOOD about it all, that you are doing the RIGHT things and that you are headed in the right direction.
After working with dozens of 1:1 clients over the past few years, I have realized that all money journeys need to start in the same place to be successful.
You have got to get the credit cards taken care of.
Credit card debt contributes to money stress more than almost anything. It holds you back from making other progress in your financial life that will feel really good. It’s pesky and refuses to go away without a fight.
But here is the reality.
Credit card debt didn’t happen overnight. Bad habits accumulated over time to create this issue you now have to deal with. And it’s not going to go away over night either.
It’s going to take some determination, courage and dare I say moxie to get it handled.
But it’s so worth it.
You want the money stress to start to lift?
You have got to get the credit cards taken care of.
You want to start making big financial changes in your life?
You have got to get the credit cards taken care of.
But it’s not quite as simple as just making bigger payments. To make sure you don’t get back into this situation again you need to pay off your credit cards in a sustainable way that will stand the test of time.
You need a debt repayment plan, sure, but you also need to evaluate the habits that got you into debt and determine how you need to adjust your system and behaviors to course correct going forward.
The first thing you need to do?
Stop using them.
Figure out how to live your life without credit cards, at least while you are working to get them paid off. This might take a month, or more. But figuring out how to stop using the cards before you tackle how to pay them off ensures as you pay off your debt it will stick this time.
You can do this. It’s time to ditch the credit cards for good.
